  • question_answer
A truck and a car are moving with equal velocity. On applying brakes, both will stop after certain distance, then :

    A)  truck will cover less distance before stopping

    B)  car will cover less distance before stopping

    C)  both will cover equal distance

    D)  none of these

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The mass of truck is much more than that of car. From Newtons second law \[F=ma\] ... (i) Also, \[{{v}^{2}}={{u}^{2}}-2\,as\] ... (ii) When car and truck stop; \[v=0\]and \[a=\frac{F}{m}\] from Eq. (i), Then, \[0={{u}^{2}}-2\frac{F}{m}s\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[s=\frac{{{u}^{2}}\,m}{2\,F}\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[s\propto m\] Hence, car will cover less distance before stopping.
