The boiling points of the following hydrides follow the order of:

    A)  \[N{{H}_{3}}>As{{H}_{3}}>P{{H}_{3}}>Sb{{H}_{3}}\]

    B)  \[Sb{{H}_{3}}>As{{H}_{3}}>P{{H}_{3}}>N{{H}_{3}}\]

    C)  \[Sb{{H}_{3}}>N{{H}_{3}}>As{{H}_{3}}>P{{H}_{3}}\]

    D)  \[N{{H}_{3}}>P{{H}_{3}}>As{{H}_{3}}>Sb{{H}_{3}}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Compounds \[N{{H}_{3}}\,\,\,\,P{{H}_{3}}\,\,\,\,As{{H}_{3}}\,\,\,\,Sb{{H}_{3}}\] Boiling point (in K) 238   185   211    254 (i) From \[P{{H}_{3}}\] to \[Sb{{H}_{3}}\] boiling point increases regularly due to increase in van der Waals forces of attraction. (ii) \[N{{H}_{3}}\] has exceptionally high boiling point due to hydrogen bonding. \[\therefore \] The boiling points are of the order \[Sb{{H}_{3}}>N{{H}_{3}}>As{{H}_{3}}>P{{H}_{3}}\]
