    Enzyme present in saliva is:

    A)  maltase

    B)  ptyalin

    C)  sucrase

    D)  invertase

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Saliva is secreted by major and minor salivary gland. It is slightly acidic (pH 6.8). The saliva contains an enzyme salivary amylase (ptyalin) which converts starch into maltose, isomaltose and small dextrins. The intestinal juice or succus entericus is secreted by intestinal glands. It contains maltase, isomaltase, sucrase (invertase), lactase and a-dextrinase. Maltase converts maltose into glucose units while sucrose converts sucrose into glucose and fructose.
