Green-house effect is due to the increased concentration of:

    A)  \[C{{O}_{2}}\]

    B)  Ne

    C)  \[S{{O}_{2}}\]

    D)  \[N{{O}_{2}}\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The high concentration of \[C{{O}_{2}},C{{H}_{4}}\] and CFCs form a layer in the atmosphere which allow the light waves to come in but prevent their back flow. This increases the global temperature and known as Green House Effect. This high temperature will cause melting of snow from hill tops and poles. Sulphur dioxide causes chlorosis and necrosis of vegetation in low concentration (.032 ppm). Lichen vegetation and mosses are completely destroyed by \[S{{O}_{2}}\]. Nitrogen oxides \[(N{{O}_{2}},{{N}_{2}}O,NO,{{N}_{2}}{{O}_{5}})\]  produce lesions, necrosis, defoliation, dieback and death of many plants, they cause eye irritation, respiratory troubles, lung edema etc.
