Order of hydrolysis for the following : (I) \[RCOCl\] (II) \[RCOOR\] (III) \[RCON{{H}_{2}}\] (IV) \[{{(RCO)}_{2}}O\]

    A)  \[1>IV>II>III\]

    B)  \[1>II>III>IV\]

    C)  \[1>III>II>IV\]

    D)  \[1V>III>II>I\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    (i) Acid chlorides is most reactive and is hydrolysed slowly by water as follows: \[C{{H}_{3}}COCl+{{H}_{2}}O\xrightarrow{{}}C{{H}_{3}}COOH+HCl\] (ii) Acid anhydrides are less reactive than acid chlorides. They are hydrolysed slowly by water. \[{{(C{{H}_{3}}CO)}_{2}}O+{{H}_{2}}O\to 2C{{H}_{3}}COOH\] (iii) Ester are hydrolysed slowly by water in presence of acid or alkali. \[RCOOR+{{H}_{2}}ORCOOH+ROH\] (iv) Amides are hydrolysed very slowly by water. \[R-\overset{\begin{smallmatrix}  O \\  || \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{C}}\,-N{{H}_{2}}+{{H}_{2}}O\xrightarrow{{{H}^{+}}}RCOOH+N{{H}_{3}}\] \[\therefore \] The correct order of hydrolysis is: \[RCOCl>{{(RCO)}_{2}}O>RCOOR>RCON{{H}_{2}}\]
