The number of post-zygotic nuclear divisions of synkaryon in exconjugant Paramecium is:

    A)  one

    B)  three

    C)  five

    D)  eight

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

In Paramecium. The small pronucleus of one conjugants fuses with the stationary pronucleus of other. Due to this, a synkaryon (zygote) is formed. After formation of synkaryon, each conjugant is separated and is called exconjugant. Now the nucleus of synkaryon undergoes 3 nuclear divisions and produce 8 nuclei.
