For the reaction\[C(s)+C{{O}_{2}}(g)\rightleftharpoons 2CO(g),\]the partial pressures of \[\text{C}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\]and CO are 2.0 and 4.0 atm respectively at equilibrium. What is the value of K for the reaction?

    A)  0.5

    B)  4.0

    C)  8.0

    D)  32

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

For the reaction, \[C(s)+C{{O}_{2}}(g)\rightleftharpoons 2CO(g)\] Equilibrium constant in terms of partial pressure \[({{K}_{p}})\] is given as: \[{{K}_{p}}=\frac{p_{CO}^{2}}{{{p}_{C{{O}_{2}}}}}\] (only gaseous moles are considered) \[{{P}_{CO}}=4\]                              \[{{P}_{C{{O}_{2}}}}=2\]                                 \[=\frac{4\times 4}{2}=\frac{16}{2}=8\]
