Boiling water at \[100{}^\circ C\] and cold water at \[t{}^\circ C\] are mixed in the ratio 1:3 and the resultant maximum temperature was \[37{}^\circ C\]. Assuming no heat losses, the value of t is:

    A) \[4{}^\circ C\]

    B) \[9{}^\circ C\]

    C) \[12{}^\circ C\]

    D) \[16{}^\circ C\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                     Heat given = Heat taken \[{{m}_{1}}{{s}_{1}}{{t}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}{{s}_{2}}{{t}_{2}}={{m}_{1}}{{s}_{1}}t+{{m}_{2}}{{s}_{2}}t\]                            ?(i) Given: \[{{m}_{1}}{{s}_{1}}:{{m}_{2}}{{s}_{2}}=1:3\] \[{{t}_{1}}=100\]also \[{{t}_{2}}=?,t=37{{\,}^{o}}C\] Now, putting the given value \[1\times 100+3{{t}_{2}}=1\times t+3\times t\] \[100+3{{t}_{2}}=4\times 37\] \[3{{t}_{2}}=148-100\] \[{{t}_{2}}=\frac{48}{3}=16{{\,}^{o}}C\]
