A ray of light is incident on one of the refracting faces of an equilateral prism at an angle of incidence \[48{}^\circ C\] in the minimum deviation position. The angle of deviation produced by the prism is:

    A) \[48{}^\circ C\]

    B) \[36{}^\circ C\]

    C) \[24{}^\circ C\]

    D) \[18{}^\circ C\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

In the minimum deviation position the angle  of deviation is given as \[\delta =2i-A\] (Where A is angle of prism since prism is a equilateral triangle hence, \[A={{60}^{o}}.\] Given\[i={{48}^{o}}\]) Now, putting the given values Eq. (i) \[\delta =2\times {{48}^{o}}-{{60}^{o}}\] \[={{96}^{o}}-{{60}^{o}}\] \[={{36}^{o}}\]
