If two bar magnets of different lengths have equal moments, then the pole strength is:

    A)  equal for both the magnets

    B)  lesser for shorter magnet

    C)  more for longer magnet

    D)  more for shorter magnet

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Given: Two bar magnets are of same moments. Hence,     \[{{M}_{1}}={{M}_{2}}\] \[{{m}_{1}}{{l}_{1}}={{m}_{2}}{{l}_{2}}\]  (\[\because M=ml\]where m is pole strength also \[{{l}_{1}}\ne {{l}_{2}}\])      Hence,      \[\frac{{{m}_{1}}}{{{m}_{2}}}=\frac{{{l}_{1}}}{{{l}_{2}}}\] It means pole strength \[m\propto \frac{1}{l}\] So, the shorter magnet will have more pole strength.
