  • question_answer
\[\text{100 mL}\] of 0.1\[\text{M}\,{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}}\text{S}{{\text{O}}_{\text{4}}}\] is added to 200 mL of \[\text{M NaOH}\text{.}\] What is the pH of the resulting mixture ?

    A)  2

    B)  7

    C)  10

    D)  12

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

\[0.1\,M\,\,{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}=0.2N\,{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\] \[0.1\,M\,NaOH=0.1N\,NaOH\] Milliequivalent of acid \[={{N}_{1}}{{V}_{1}}=0.2\times 100=20\] Milliequivalent of base \[={{N}_{1}}V{{}_{1}}\] \[=0.1\times 200=20\] Here,                     \[{{N}_{1}}{{V}_{1}}={{N}_{2}}{{V}_{2}}\] Hence, resulting mixture is neutral and its pH is 7.
