Arrange following in correct sequence with reference to sexual reproduction in Rhizopus. (i) Formation of germ tube (ii) Formation of zygophores (iii)Formation of warty wall layer of zygospore (iv) Secretion of trisporic acid The correct sequence is :

    A)  (iv), (iii), (ii), (i)

    B)  (iv), (ii), (iii), (i)

    C)  (ii),(i),(iv).(iii)

    D)  (i), (iii), (ii), (iv)

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

During sexual reproduction in Rhizopus, (+) and (-) strains of mycelia stimulate each other through pheromone like trisporic acid to form zygophores. Zygophores of two strains come in to   form   progametangia   then coenaogametangia. Then after gametangial copulation, zygospores with warty wall layer are formed which  germinate  in  favourable conditions and form a germ tube.
