  • question_answer
The thermo- emf  of a certain thermocouple is found to vary with temperature t \[\left( in\text{ }{}^\circ C \right)\] in accordance with the relation: \[E=40t-\frac{{{t}^{2}}}{20}\]where r is the temperature of the hot junction, the cold junction being kept at \[0{}^\circ C\]. The neutral  temperature of the couple is

    A) \[100{}^\circ C\]

    B) \[200{}^\circ C\]

    C) \[300{}^\circ C\]

    D)  \[400{}^\circ C\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

     Given relation, \[E=40\,t-\frac{{{t}^{2}}}{20}\] Neutral point exist where \[\frac{dE}{dt}\] will be zero. \[\therefore \]  \[\frac{dE}{dt}=40-\frac{2t}{20}\] or            \[40-\frac{2t}{20}=0\] or            \[\frac{t}{10}=40\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[t=400{{\,}^{o}}C\]
