                     Colocasia and Ficus plants have inflorescences with male, female and sterile flowers. In Ficus, the receptacle becomes pear-shaped and contains a hollow central cavity and a hairy opening called ostiole at their anterior side. The hollow cavity bear many male flowers at the ostiole side and female flowers at the basal side-between these two types of flowers, sterile flowers with short style are situated. These sterile flowers are called gall flowers- Colocasia inflorescence consist a spadix subtended by a persistent spathe, female flower at the base of spadix, males at apex with sterile flowers between them.
