When the number of turns of the coil is doubled, the current sensitivity of a moving coil galvanometer is doubled whereas, the voltage sensitivity of the galvanometer

    A)  remains the same

    B)  is halved

    C)  is doubled

    D)  is quadrupled

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Consider that the moving coil galvanometer consists of a coil of n turns and possesses area A and resistance R. When a potential difference V is applied, suppose that a current i flows through the galvanometer and the coil deflects through angle a. Then, current sensitivity of the galvanometer, \[\frac{\alpha }{i}=\frac{nAB}{k}\] and voltage sensitivity of the galvanometer \[\frac{\alpha }{V}=\frac{\alpha }{iR}\] \[=\frac{nAB}{kR}\] Thus, the voltage sensitivity of galvanometer also gets doubled.
