  • question_answer
A particle is acted upon by a force of constant magnitude which is always perpendicular to the velocity of the particle. The motion of the particle takes place in a plane. It follows :

    A)  its velocity is constant

    B)  its kinetic energy is constant

    C)  its acceleration is constant

    D)  it moves in a straight line

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

When force is perpendicular to velocity of particle, it is centripetal   force   whose magnitude is \[F=\frac{m{{v}^{2}}}{r}=\]constant           ... (i) Also, kinetic energy \[K=\frac{1}{2}m{{v}^{2}}\]                         ...(ii) From Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get \[K=\frac{1}{2}m{{v}^{2}}=Fr=\]constant. Since, radius of circular path is always constant.
