Which of the following prevents food from going into trachea?

    A)  glottis

    B)  pharynx

    C)  epiglottis

    D)  bronchi

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Epiglottis is a leaf-like, movable and elastic cartilage plate covered by mucus membrane. When food is to be swallowed, the soft palate and uvula move upwards to shut the nasopharynx from oropharynx. Simulta- neously the epiglottis bends forwards and downwards upon the glottis so that the food slips upon its upper surface towards the gullet.
