  • question_answer
A charge is fired through a magnetic field. The force acting on it is maximum when the direction of motion of the charge and magnetic field is :

    A)  zero

    B) \[\frac{\pi }{4}\]

    C) \[\frac{\pi }{2}\]

    D) \[\pi \]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

                    Magnetic field exerts force on moving charge (q), given by \[F=qv\times B\] \[=qvB\text{ }sin\,\theta \] where v is velocity of charge, B the magnetic field,\[\theta \]the angle between field and charge motion. Force will be maximum when\[sin\,\theta \]is maximum. That is\[={{90}^{o}},\text{ }\sin \text{ }{{90}^{o}}=1\]. \[\therefore \]  \[{{F}_{m}}=qvB\]
