The number of turns in the primary and the secondary turns of a transformer are 1000 and 3000 respectively. If 80 V AC is applied to the primary coil of the transformer, then the potential difference per turn of secondary coil is:

    A)  0.24 V

    B)  0.08 V

    C)  240 V

    D)  2400 V

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The transformation ratio of a transformer is given by \[\frac{{{V}_{S}}}{{{V}_{P}}}=\frac{{{N}_{S}}}{{{N}_{P}}}=r\] where\[{{V}_{S}}\]and\[{{V}_{P}}\]are voltage across secondary and primary and\[{{N}_{S}}\]and\[{{N}_{P}}\]are number of turns of secondary and primary respectively. Given, \[{{N}_{S}}=3000,\text{ }{{N}_{P}}=1000,\text{ }{{V}_{p}}=80\text{ }V\] \[\therefore \]  \[{{V}_{S}}=\frac{3000}{1000}\times 80=240V\]
