When a magnet is heated :

    A)  it loses its magnetism

    B)  it gains magnetism

    C)  neither loses nor gains magnetism

    D)  none of the above

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

When magnetic material is heated above a point known as the Curie temperature it loses its magnetism. At this point the energy being put into the magnet from the heat will permanently disrupt the magnetic domain structure of the material, turning it into a paramagnetic material. In order to restore the magnetism, it will have to be remagnetised either is a solenoid or with another permanent magnet.
