                    When spring constant is k and I is extension produced in spring when force F is applied, then \[F=-kl=mg\] When spring is cut into two parts, its length is halved \[\left( \frac{l}{2} \right)\] \[\therefore \]  \[k=\frac{mg}{l/2}=2k\]
