If for a gas\[\frac{R}{{{C}_{v}}}=0.67,\] this gas is made up of molecules which are :

    A)  monoatomic

    B)  diatomic

    C)  polyatomic

    D)  mixture of diatomic and polyatomic molecules

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

From Mayors formula, \[{{C}_{P}}-{{C}_{V}}=R\]                                          ...(i) where R is gas constant. Also,                      \[\gamma =\frac{{{C}_{P}}}{{{C}_{V}}}\]                             ...(ii) From Eqs. (i) and (ii), we have                 \[\gamma -1=\frac{R}{{{C}_{V}}}\] Given,    \[\frac{R}{{{C}_{V}}}=0.67\] \[\therefore \]  \[\gamma =0.67+1=1.67\] Hence, gas is monoatomic.
