The theory of random genetic drift was proposed by

    A)                  Hardy-Weinberg

    B)                  R A Fisher

    C)                  Sewall Wright

    D)                  May r

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The theory of genetic drift was proposed by geneticist Sewall Wright in 1930. It is also called Sewall Wright effect or scattering of variability. It refers to the random fluctuations in the gene frequencies in a small population generation after generation purely by chance. By genetic drift, the frequency of one of the allele becomes zero and that of other allele becomes one. The allele with the frequency of one is said to be fixed in the population.
