Which one of the following is not an insectivorous plant?

    A)  Monotropa

    B)  Drosera

    C)  Utricularia

    D)  Nepenthes

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

An insectivorous plant, also called a carnivorous plant, captures prey items, such as insects, spiders, crustaceans, mites, and protozoans, as a nitrogen source. Many insectivorous species live in freshwater bogs, where nitrogen is not present in available form, because the pH of the water is extremely acidic. Few examples of insectivorous plants are, Utricularia, Drocera, Nepenthes. Monotropa is a herbaceous perennial plant. Unlike most plants, they do not contain chlorophyll, they are myco-heterotrophs, getting their food through parasitism upon fungi rather than photosynthesis. Thus, they are capable of living in very dark conditions, such as the floor of deep forests because they do not need any sunlight.
