  • question_answer
Two particles of masses 1 kg and 2 kg are located at \[{{x}_{1}}=0,{{y}_{1}}=0\,\,and\,\,\,{{x}_{2}}=1,{{y}_{2}}=0\] respectively. The centre of mass of the system is at

    A)  \[x=1;\,\,\,y=2\]

    B) \[x=2;\,\,\,y=1\]

    C) \[x=\frac{1}{3};\,\,y\frac{2}{3}\]

    D) \[x=\frac{2}{3};\,\,y\frac{1}{3}\]

    E)                 (e) None of the above

    Correct Answer: E

    Solution :

                    (e) \[{{x}_{CM}}=\frac{{{m}_{1}}{{x}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}{{x}_{2}}}{{{m}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}};{{y}_{CM}}=\frac{{{m}_{1}}{{y}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}{{y}_{2}}}{{{m}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}}\] \[=\frac{1\times 0+2\times 1}{3}=\frac{2}{3};y=\frac{1\times 0+2\times 0}{3}=0\]                                                                 \[\left[ \frac{2}{3},0 \right]\] Hence, no option is correct.
