  • question_answer
The probability of \[A\] to fail in an examination is \[\frac{1}{5}\] and that of \[B\] is\[\frac{3}{10}\], then the probability that either \[A\] or \[B\] fails is

    A) \[\frac{1}{2}\]

    B) \[\frac{11}{25}\]

    C) \[\frac{19}{50}\]

    D)  None of these

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    We have, probability of \[A\] to fail                 \[P(A)=\frac{1}{5}\Rightarrow P(\bar{A})=\frac{4}{5}\] Similarly,\[P(B)=\frac{3}{10}\Rightarrow P(\bar{B})=\frac{7}{10}\] Probability that either \[A\] or \[B\] fails is                 \[=P(A)P(\bar{B})+P(\bar{A})P(B)\]                 \[=\frac{1}{5}\cdot \frac{7}{10}+\frac{4}{5}\cdot \frac{5}{10}=\frac{19}{50}\]
