A) apical meristem
B) lateral meristem
C) cork
D) bark
Correct Answer: B
Solution :
Cambium is a thin strip of radially arranged thin walled cells, extending lengthwise between xylem and phloem. The cambium of vascular bundles (fasicular, interfasicular and extrastelar cambium) and the cork cambium or phellogen originates through lateral meristem. This meristem occur laterally in the axis, parallel to sides of roots and stem. It consists of initials which divide mainly in one plane (periclinal) and causes increase in diameter of an organ. Bark is the dead tissue lying outside the active cork-cambium, this includes ruptured epidermis, hypodermis and cork. Cork or phellem is dead, thick walled layer, formed by activity of cork-cambium towards outside. You need to login to perform this action.
