Zener diode is connected to a battery and a load as show below: The currents, \[I,{{I}_{Z}}\] and \[{{I}_{L}}\] are respectively.   [JEE Main Online Paper ( Held On 11 Apirl  2014 )

    A) 15 mA, 5 mA, 10 mA

    B) 15 mA, 7.5 mA, 7.5 mA

    C) 12.5 mA, 5 mA, 7.5 mA

    D) 12.5 mA, 7.5 mA, 5 mA

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                    Here, \[R=4k\Omega =4\times {{10}^{3}}\Omega \] \[{{V}_{i}}=60V\]Zener voltage \[{{V}_{z}}=10V\] \[{{R}_{L}}=2k\Omega =2\times {{10}^{3}}\Omega \] Load current, \[{{I}_{L}}=\frac{{{V}_{z}}}{{{R}_{L}}}=\frac{10}{2\times {{10}^{3}}}=5mA\] Current through \[R,I=\frac{{{V}_{i}}-{{V}_{z}}}{R}\] \[=\frac{60-10}{4\times {{10}^{3}}}=\frac{50}{4\times {{10}^{3}}}=12.5mA\] Fom circuit diagram, \[I={{I}_{z}}+{{I}_{L}}\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[12.5={{I}_{z}}+5\]\[\Rightarrow \]\[{{I}_{z}}=12.5-5=7.5mA\]
