Which of the organic compound will give red colour in Lassaigne test?

    A)  \[NaCNS\]

    B)         \[N{{H}_{2}}CSN{{H}_{2}}\]

    C)         \[N{{H}_{2}}CON{{H}_{2}}\]

    D)

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

In Lassaigne test of nitrogen, sometimes red colour appears. It is due to the presence of both N and S in the organic compound. When both of these are present, these changes into NaCNS during sodium extract preparation which give \[Fe{{(CNS)}_{3}}\] with \[FeC{{l}_{3}}\] solution. Hence, thio-urea will give blood red colour in Lassaigne test. \[Na+C+N+S\xrightarrow{{}}NaCNS\] \[FeC{{l}_{3}}+3NaCNS\xrightarrow{{}}\underset{\text{blood}\,\,\text{red}}{\mathop{Fe{{(CNS)}_{3}}}}\,+3NaCl\]
