  • question_answer
A body of mass 2 kg is moving with velocity 10 m/s towards east. Another body of same mass and same velocity moving towards north collides with former and coalesces and moves towards North-East. Its velocity is :

    A)  5 m/s

    B)         2.5 m/s

    C)         10 m/s

    D)         5\[\sqrt{2}\] m/s

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    According law of conservation of momentum \[{{p}^{2}}=p_{1}^{2}+p_{2}^{2}\] \[{{(4\times v)}^{2}}={{(2\times 10)}^{2}}+{{(2\times 10)}^{2}}\] \[\upsilon =\sqrt{\frac{800}{16}}=\sqrt{50}=5\sqrt{2}\] \[\therefore \] The velocity of body is, \[v=5\sqrt{2}\,m\text{/}s\]
