  • question_answer
Vapour density of a metal chloride is 47.5. If the valency of metal is 2, the metal is:

    A)  Mg

    B)         Ca

    C)  Ba

    D)         Pb

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Molecular weight of metal chloride \[=2\times V.\,d=2\times 47.5=95\] As the valency of metal is 2, hence, the molecular formula of its chloride will be\[MC{{l}_{2}}\]. Hence,         \[MC{{l}_{2}}=95\] \[M+2\times 35.5=95\] \[M=95-71=24\] Hence, the metal must be magnesium (Mg) as its atomic weight is 24.
