Two identical gas tanks are placed on the two pans of beam balance. One tank is empty and open to the atmosphere. The second tank is evacuated and then filled with helium unit the two tanks balance. The pressure of helium must be:

    A)  1 atm

    B)  4 atm

    C)  15 atm

    D)         7.5 atm

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

If the tanks balances the mass of air must be equal to the mass of helium. The pressure of air is 1 atm. Hence the pressure of helium should 7.5 atm to keep mass constant. As the density of air is nearly 7.5 times of the helium.
