The equation of wave travelling in a string can be written as \[y=3\,\cos \,\pi \]\[(100t-x).\] Its wavelength is:

    A)  2 cm

    B)  5 cm

    C)  100 cm

    D)         none of these

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    \[y=3\cos \pi (100t-x)\]                                 ?(i) Standard equation is \[y=a\cos \pi (\omega t-kx)\]                                     ?(ii) Comparing the equation (i) and (ii), we get \[k=\frac{2\pi }{\lambda }=\pi ,\]  hence \[\lambda =2\,cm\]
