JIPMER Jipmer Medical Solved Paper-2015

  • question_answer
In an A.C. circuit, the current flowing is \[I=5\,\sin \,(100\,t-\pi \text{/}2)\] amperes and the potential difference is V = 200 sin (100t) volts. The power consumption is equal to:

    A)  1000 W

    B)         40 W

    C)  20 W

    D)         0 W

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Given: Current \[(I)=5\,\sin \,(100\,t-\pi \text{/}2)\]and voltage (V) = 200 sin (100 t). Comparing the given equation, with the standard equation,   we find that between current and voltage is \[\phi =\frac{\pi }{2}=90{}^\circ .\] Therefore power (P)\[=\text{IV}\,\cos \phi =\text{IV}\,\cos 90{}^\circ \] \[=\text{IV}\times 0=0\,W.\]
