    Find out the amount of polythene formed from 20 kg of calcium carbide from the following reactions. \[{{C}_{a}}{{C}_{2}}+2{{H}_{2}}O\to Ca{{(OH)}_{2}}+{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{2}}\] \[HC\equiv CH+{{H}_{2}}\xrightarrow{Pd-BaS{{O}_{4}}}C{{H}_{2}}=C{{H}_{2}}\] \[\begin{align}   & nC{{H}_{2}}=C{{H}_{2}}\to -{{(C{{H}_{2}}-C{{H}_{2}}-)}_{n}} \\  & Polythene \\ \end{align}\]

    A) 6 g

    B) 9 kg

    C) 26 g

    D) 29 kg

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Molecular weight of \[Ca{{C}_{2}}=40+2\times 12=64\] \[\because \] 64 kg of \[Ca{{C}_{2}}\]gives = 24 + 4 = 28 kg of ethane \[\therefore \] 20 kg of \[Ca{{C}_{2}}\]will give \[=\frac{28}{64}\times 20\]                                                \[=\frac{7\times 20}{16}=\frac{35}{4}\]                                                \[=8.75\]                                                \[\approx 9kg\]polythene
