What type of hybridisation takes place in the N atom of\[N{{H}_{3}}\]?

    A) \[s{{p}^{2}}\]

    B) \[s{{p}^{3}}\]

    C)  \[ds{{p}^{2}}\]

    D) \[sp\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

In\[N{{H}_{3}},\]the N atom contains one lone pair of electrons and three bond pairs in its valence shell. So It shows\[s{{p}_{3}}\]hybridization. Due to presence of one lone pair of electron, its shape deviate from tetrahedral because lone pair shows more repulsion than bond pairs. As. \[l.p-l.p.>l.p.-b.p.>b.p.-b.p.\] So its shape is pyramidal and angle\[107{}^\circ \].
