Regarding a semiconductor which one of the following is wrong?

    A) There are no free electrons at room temperature

    B) There are no free electrons at OK

    C) The number of free electrons increases with rise of temperature

    D) The charge carriers are electrons and holes

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

In semiconductor, no covalent bond breaks at 0 K, so, no electron is free at 0 K. At room temperature some covalent bonds break, so, some electrons wd. holes become free. More covalent bonds break at high-temperature and so, number of free electrons increases at high temperature.
