MGIMS WARDHA MGIMS WARDHA Solved Paper-2004

  • question_answer
The radius of orbit of a planet is two times that of the earth. The time period of planet is :

    A) 4.2 T

    B) 2.8 T

    C) 5.6 T

    D) 8.4 T

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Applying Kepler's third law \[{{T}^{2}}\propto {{R}^{3}}\] Hence,  \[{{\left( \frac{{{T}_{1}}}{{{T}_{2}}} \right)}^{2}}={{\left( \frac{{{R}_{1}}}{{{R}_{2}}} \right)}^{3}}={{\left( \frac{R}{2R} \right)}^{3}}\]                                 \[\frac{T}{{{T}_{2}}}={{\left( \frac{1}{2} \right)}^{3/2}}\]                                 \[{{T}_{2}}={{(2)}^{3/2}}T\] So,                          \[{{T}_{2}}=2.8T\]
