MGIMS WARDHA MGIMS WARDHA Solved Paper-2005

  • question_answer
A wire of diameter 1 mm breaks under a tension of 1000 N. Another wire, of same material as that of the first one, but of                 diameter 2 mm breaks under a tension of :

    A) 500 N

    B) 100 N

    C) 1000 N

    D) 4000 N

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Breaking tension \[T\propto {{r}^{2}}\] \[\frac{{{T}_{1}}}{{{T}_{2}}}={{\left( \frac{{{r}_{1}}}{{{r}_{2}}} \right)}^{2}}\] \[\frac{1000}{{{T}_{2}}}={{\left( \frac{1/2}{2/2} \right)}^{2}}\] \[\frac{1000}{{{T}_{2}}}={{\left( \frac{1}{2} \right)}^{2}}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[{{T}_{2}}=4000N\]
