MGIMS WARDHA MGIMS WARDHA Solved Paper-2005

  • question_answer
Half-life of radioactive substance is 4 days. Amound of the substance decayed in two days is:

    A)  \[\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\]

    B) \[1-\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\]

    C) \[20%\]

    D)  \[\frac{1}{8}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    \[T=2\,days,\,{{t}_{1/2}}=4\,days\] \[\frac{N}{{{N}_{o}}}={{\left( \frac{1}{2} \right)}^{\frac{T}{{{t}_{1/2}}}}}={{\left( \frac{1}{2} \right)}^{\frac{2}{4}}}=\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\] \[\therefore \]  \[N={{N}_{o}}.\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\] Hence, amount of substance decayed in 2 days will be \[={{N}_{o}}-{{N}_{O}}.\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}=1-\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\]
