  • question_answer
A triode valve has an amplification factor of 20 and its plate is given a potential of 300 V. The grid voltage to reduce the plate current to zero, is

    A) 25V

    B) 15V

    C) 12V

    D) 10V

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    If grid potential be\[{{V}_{g}}\]and plate potential be\[{{V}_{p}},\]then the plate current i p is given by \[{{i}_{p}}=k{{\left( {{V}_{g}}+\frac{{{V}_{p}}}{\mu } \right)}^{3/2}}\]where\[k\]is a constant and\[\mu \]is amplification factor, of the given value. If\[{{i}_{p}}=0,\]then \[{{V}_{g}}+\frac{{{V}_{p}}}{\mu }=0\Rightarrow {{V}_{g}}=-\frac{{{V}_{p}}}{\mu }\] Given,     \[{{V}_{p}}=300V,\mu =20\] \[\therefore \]  \[{{V}_{g}}=\frac{300}{20}=15V\]
