MGIMS WARDHA MGIMS WARDHA Solved Paper-2010

  • question_answer
    Consider the reaction,\[F{{e}^{2+}}F{{e}^{3+}}+{{e}^{-}}\]

    A)  the reaction towards the left is a reduction

    B)  the reduction towards the right is a reduction

    C)  the reaction towards the right is an oxidation

    D)  Both  and  are correct

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

\[F{{e}^{2+}}F{{e}^{3+}}-{{e}^{-}}\] The reaction towards the right is an oxidation reaction because \[F{{e}^{2+}}\]ion loose one electron and changes into\[F{{e}^{2+}}\]ion. The reaction towards the left is an reduction reaction because\[F{{e}^{3+}}\]ion gain one electron and changes into\[F{{e}^{2+}}\]ion.
