There is a voltmeter in a circuit. In order to triple its range, the resistance of how much value should be used?

    A)  2R

    B)  R/2

    C)  3R

    D)         4R

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

If \[R\] is the resistance of the voltmeter and \[I\] current is flowing through it, then                 \[V=IR\] or            \[R=\frac{V}{I}\] If now resistance connected in series is\[R\], then                 \[R+R=\frac{3V}{I}\]                 \[R+R=3R\] \[\therefore \]  \[R=2R\]
