A cricket ball released from the top of a tall building strikes the ground with a higher velocity than a ball released from the first floor. This statement is ?

    A) Sometime true sometime false

    B) False

    C) True

    D) Can't be explained

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Let the height of the tall building is 100 metres and that of first floor is 10 metres Formula: \[{{v}^{2}}={{u}^{2}}+2gh\] For top of the building, \[{{v}^{2}}_{1}={{0}^{2}}+2\times 10\times 100(\because g=10m/{{s}^{2}})\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{v}_{1}}=10\times \sqrt{20}\,\,m/s\] For the first floor, \[{{v}^{2}}_{2}=0+2\times 10\times 10\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{v}_{2}}=10\times \sqrt{2}\,\,m/s\]  Thus,   \[{{v}_{1}}>{{v}_{2}}\]
