    A student walks from his house at the speed of \[2\,\,\frac{1}{2}\] km/hr and reaches his school late by 6 minutes. Next day, he increases his speed by 1 km/hr and reaches 6 minutes before the school time. How far is the school from his house?

    B) \[\frac{7}{4}\,\,km\]

    C) \[\frac{9}{4}\,\,km\]                  

    D) \[\frac{11}{4}\,\,km\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Clearly there is a difference between both the time is 12 minute. \[\therefore \]      \[\frac{x}{2.5}-\frac{x}{3.5}=\frac{12}{60}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[\frac{20x}{175}=\frac{12}{60}\] \[x=\frac{175\times 12}{20\times 60}=\frac{7}{4}\,\,km\]
