If the side of a square is increased by 25%, then its area is increased by?

    A) 25%

    B) 40-5%

    C) 55%

    D) 56-25%

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Let the side of square is x, then Area of square = \[{{x}^{2}}\] New side \[=x+\frac{25}{100}\,\,of\,\,x=\frac{5x}{4}\] \[New\,\,area\,\,of\,\,square={{\left( \frac{5x}{4} \right)}^{2}}=\frac{25{{x}^{2}}}{6}\] \[Increased\,\,percent=\frac{\left( \frac{25}{16}{{x}^{2}}-{{x}^{2}} \right)}{{{x}^{2}}}\times 100%\] \[=\frac{(25{{x}^{2}}-16{{x}^{2}})}{16{{x}^{2}}}\times 100%\] \[=\frac{9{{x}^{2}}}{16{{x}^{2}}}\times 100%\] \[=\frac{900}{16}%=56.25%\]
