Answer:
Douglas could not enjoy water sports like canoeing, boating and swimming because of fear of water, therefore, he wanted to overcome his fear. Although he wanted to get into the waters of cascades but his fear held him back. He felt paralysed due to fear at the very thought of water, so he decided to overcome it.
