Lakshminarasu established Madras Native Association in 1849 as a platform for educated Indians to protest against any injustice on the part of the British. It was the first Indian political organisation in the Madras Presidency. Lakshminarasu, the founder, served as its first president. Indian National Association was the first declared Nationalist organisation founded in British India by Surendranath Banerjee and Anand Mohan Bose in 1876. It was originally established as Bharat Sabha and held its first annual conference in Calcutta.
