(2) The troops of the zamindars were disbanded by the company and custom dudes were abolished. Their cutcheries (courts) were brought under the supervision of a collector appointed by the East India Company. (3) Consequently the zamindars lost their authority to organize local Justice and the local police. (4) Now, the collectorate emerged as an. alternative centre of power. The authority of the zamindars was severely curtailed.
