    Solution :

     \[2x-y=9\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[y=2x-9\]                                     ?(i) \[\therefore \]\[2x-5y=5\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[2x-5(2x-9)=5\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[2x-10x+45=5\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[-8x=5-45=-40\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[8x=40\Rightarrow x=\frac{40}{8}=5\] \[\therefore \]From equation (i), \[y=2x-9=2\times 5-9=1\] \[\therefore \]\[x-y=5-1=4\]
